Taxonomical Classification: Animalia / Arthropoda / Insecta / Coleoptera / Dynastidae |
Black flower scarab Bugħawwar botni |
Further Information: A relatively common scarabaeid beetle in the Maltese Islands, this species is also widely distributed throughout Southern Europe and occurs in North Africa. Large and black in colour, this species is relatively easy to identify - though it may be confused with female Phyllognathus excavatus, from which it is distinguished by its darker colour and frontally angular pronotum. It was recorded from Malta by Cameron and Caruana-Gatto back in 1907. |
