Further Information: This species of a small fly makes these galls commonly in fruit of Apiaceae plant species (carrot family) namely the wild carrot (Daucus spp.) and Burnett saxifrage (Pimpinella saxifraga) . Starting greenish-yellow and eventually turning bright purplish-red to brown each gall is up to 5mm in diameter and contains a single orange larvae of the causal midge. Larvae leave the gall and pupate in the soil. The larvae are only about 3mm long and very slender |
