Further Information: The Rusty banded aphid is a parasite specific to few species of plants of the Apiaceae family. It is reported from the following hosts;Petroselinum, Conium, Smyrnim, Levisticum, Foeniculum vulgare, Apium graveolens - all being part of the Apiaceae (Umbiliferae) family. It is sometimes found on Crataegus spp, (Rosacea family). The population shown in this photograph was found on cultivated celery in May 2011, and again May 2012. The species was recorded for the first time only in 2011 by Dr. David Mifsud et al. in the Bulletin of the Entomological Society of Malta. The authors have found the aphids also on celery, as well on the Giant Fennel (Ferula communis) and Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) |
