Name Derivation :

Datura:
innoxia: In- meaning not and -noxia meaning harmful, hence not harmful, yet the plant is very toxic and harmful! The author wrote that the epithet was given for the soft, non-harmful spines of the fruit where it is spiny in other species that were described before. (Latin origin )

Description, Habitat and Distribution
Habitat in Europe: Data will be available in the next update of this website.
Preferred habitat in Malta: Cultivated plant often escaping by a short distance in abandoned fields, steppe of field margins.
Botanical Description: Plant 30-200 cm, pubescent. Leaves 5-16 x 3.5-11 cm, ovate, unequally truncate to cuneate at base, entire or sinuate. Calyx 60-95 mm; teeth 11-25 mm, unequal, linear-triangular, acute. Corolla 11-19 cm, tubular, white, sometimes with a violet tint. Capsule 5.5-6.5 cm in diameter, ovoid, nodding, dehiscing irregularly, with long, slender spines.
Distributional range: Locally naturalized in the Mediterranean region.
Native region outside Europe: (Central America.)
