Ophrys: Eyebrow, referring to the brown, furry edges found in the flowering lips of several. (Latin origin )
gaulosana: 1 = Belonging or from Gozo (Maltese Islands), where the species was described first from. (Greek origin );

Planting in rural areas :

Cannot be planted in the wild (rural areas) since the species may be invasive (see ERA guidelines)

Remarks :

Described by Stephen Mifsud in 2018 from Gozo to which its name is given for. It is a natural hybrid between the endemic Ophrys melitensis and the very rare Ophrys tenthredinifera .


Description, Habitat and Distribution
Habitat in Europe: Grassland, garigue, rocky scrub; calcicole.
Preferred habitat in Malta: Garigue where its putative parent co-exist together
