Dry, open woods and rocky maquis, usually calcareous slopes |
Preferred habitat in Malta: |
Scattered on sheltered rocky ground at valley sides and abandoned fields close by forming a maquis-like habitat |
Botanical Description: |
Small deciduous tree or shrub up to 5 m. Leaves imparipinnate; leaflets usually 2-8.5-1 x 3.5 cm, 3-9, ovate to obovate or oblong, mucronate, coriaceous; rhachis not winged; petioles glabrous. Inflorescence with long branches. Flowers brownish. Drupe 5-7 x 4-6 mm obovoid, compressed, apiculate, at first reddish, becoming brown. |
